Waitress From Edmonton

WAITRESS FROM EDMONTON
Waitress from Edmonton she moves so swiftly from table to table
Her smile lights up the whole room, she's more than capable
Walking down Jasper Avenue, she was such a sight
But let me tell you the waitress from Edmonton, had it sown up tight
Yeah, waitress from Edmonton, waitress from Edmonton
Yeah, waitress from Edmonton, waitress from Edmonton
Oooh, Sha-la-la-la-la
Waitress from Edmonton she moves so swiftly picking up her tips
And all the regulars come in the see her move her hips
Long red hair and a flowery dress hanging down to her knees
The waitress from Edmonton believe me, she's oooh, such a sight to see
Oh, waitress from Edmonton, waitress from Edmonton
She's such a sight to see, that Prairie rose
Oooh, waitress from Edmonton, waitress from Edmonton
She's such a sight to see, that Prairie rose
Oooh, Sha-la-la-la-la
Such a sight to see
Sha-la-la-la-la
Such a sight to see

A Fool's Game

A FOOL'S GAME
Darius once was the starting linebacker
He got mixed up with the wrong crowd
Took something that didn't belong to him
And made a run for Fort MacCleod
Three days later they found him out on Highway 2
He was missing his finger, he was missing his shoes
It's just a fool's game, nothing changes, it's just a fool's game
Sketchy Shane always bragged about his luck
Claimed it was the rabbit's foot around his neck
Hustling cards is a fool's game
Cheating any sucker just the same
Lying under the table with five aces in his coat
His eyes bulged and the rabbit's foot down his throat
It's just a fool's game, nothing changes, it's just a fool's game
New Year's Eve Kevin's out with his friends
Pounding them back as the countdown begins
Fireworks blasting, ringing in the new year
Guns a-blazing in joyful cheer
Shots fired up, must come down
And Kevin's found, slumped on the ground
It's just a fool's game, nothing changes, it's just a fool's game
Yeah, nothing changes, it's just a fool's game

Slip Between The Cracks

SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS
So now you think I'm slow
A walking simpleton
I just might leave that impression
On account of the Ritalin
But I was so far out
I needed to come back
I failed without a doubt
To slip between the cracks
And the things that you said
I should think before I speak
And I'm so sorry that you
You thought I was a creep
But I was so far out
I needed to come back
I failed without a doubt
To slip between the cracks
So I gave you my attention
Right from the start
But you did not yield
And you, you took it all to heart
But I was so far out
I needed to come back
I failed without a doubt
To slip between the cracks
I failed to slip between the cracks
I failed to slip between the cracks

Earl

EARL
The man in the cell next to me, his name is Earl
He used to be a famous country singer in his day
Sitting at a barstool, with a bottle in my hand
Earl could always sing the blues away
Now give me one last request
Just before they put my wretched soul to death
Bring me a guitar and hand it to Earl
He can sing about heartbreak
He can sing about a girl
He can sing ... the blues away
Now Earl doesn't belong in here
What happened ain't exactly clear
He said it was self defense from jealousy
Now the jury could not be convinced of his innocence
So they locked him away with the scum of the earth
And that dear God, would be me
Now give me one last request
Just before they put my wretched soul to death
Bring me a guitar and hand it to Earl
He can sing about heartbreak
He can sing about a girl
He can sing ... the blues away
As Earl began to tune the guitar
He asked me what was my crime
I had always told him I was innocent
But I guess he knew I was lying
Have you heard of the Highway Of Tears
From Prince Rupert to Prince George
There was always someone hitchhiking
There was always some young girl
Now give me one last request
Just before they put my wretched soul to death
Bring me a guitar and hand it to Earl
He can sing about heartbreak
He can sing about a girl
He can sing ... the blues away
The blues away
The blues away
The blues away

FRIDAY NIGHT DRIVE BY
It's a crime of convenience
It's a crime of passion
It's about time someone took some action
It's a Saturday morning
After a Friday night drive by
I need a shot of whiskey
But the bottle's sucked dry
It's a Saturday morning
After a Friday night drive by
Fish bones on the table
And flies buzzing around
Every guilty party's already left town
It's a Saturday morning
After a Friday night drive by
I need a shot of whiskey
But the bottle's sucked dry
It's a Saturday morning
After a Friday night drive by
It's a crime of convenience
It's a crime of passion
It's about time someone took some action
It's a Saturday morning
After a Friday night drive by

I Set Swindon Ablaze

I SET SWINDON ABLAZE
I set Swindon ablaze
Cause I didn't like it anyway
I set Swindon ablaze
I watched it burn from afar
I arrived in Swindon just as planned
But you were so distant, everything had changed
So what happened to our summer romance?
From this moment on I didn't stand a chance
Five weeks in this shit town with nothing to do
I grew to hate everyone and all this English food
Another string of sleepless nights staring at your back
I think you thought it all was all a good laugh
In a fit of rage I set the bed alight
The flames engulfed the house and lit up the night
They jumped from roof to roof and this I never planned
But I shrugged and walked away
It was now in God's hands
I set Swindon ablaze
Cause I didn't like it anyway
I set Swindon ablaze
I watched it burn from afar
I set Swindon ablaze
I set Swindon ablaze
And let it burn, I let it burn
I let it burn, I let it burn, I let it burn

BROKEN HEARTS BROKEN DREAMS
Now you're done having your fun
You wiggled out from under my thumb
Where ushered confusion and broken plans
Broken hearts and broken dreams
So you couldn't give enough
And arms length was all that was sussed
Where ushered confusion and broken plans
Broken hearts and broken dreams
Broken hearts, broken plans, broken dreams
So Salem is where it ends
And now it's back to New York again
Where ushered confusion and broken plans
Broken hearts and broken dreams
Broken hearts, broken plans, broken dreams

STREET CORNER
I'm going down to the market
With Amber Lynn Jo
She's got a 40 in her belly and a prosthetic leg
Down on the street corner
We begged, begged and begged
Sucking on a tube down in the hole
Jim's got a bucket full of bolts, pounding down the side road
Stealing gas gets us around, but just the same
We're back down on the street corner
Beggin' for some change
We roll with the dice
We got bourbon, but no ice
So tell me Amber what's happening here?
She does a soft shoe ballet
Dancing on my forehead
Down on the street corner
Beggin' for some bread

Burning Records

BURNING RECORDS
Down in the center of town
People came from miles around
We all watched as records were thrown on the fire
They can't get away with this
Tommy and Doug pleaded over the airwaves
Break or burn and ban their music
We aren't playing any of their records
“Vengeance” screamed the KKK
Bonfires organized in the south
A Beatles record nailed to a cross
And then set alight
Down in the center of town
People came from miles around
We all watched as records were thrown on the fire
I was one of the first there
I stood in disbelief
In the name of God a sermon evolved
On the popularity of Christ
Down in the center of town
People came from miles around
We all watched as records were thrown on the fire
Yeah, we all watched as records were thrown on the fire

The Specimens

THE SPECIMENS
It started back in '63 that things began to escalate
First it was the fireman's boy, then the old lady who lived next door
That Mexican's beloved daughter and Rocky's middle child
They all went missing and no one was found
Not until now … if I care to tell
Then everything went quiet for the years I was away
Biology scholarship, squandered in every way
You see I liked working with all the specimens
But this paperwork is such a bore
I missed that feeling that I got from this town that I abhorred
When things stirred up in '68 all the newspapers had a field day
Well, no one figured out that my return
Had anything to do with these crimes
That drunk sheriff and his crew were running around in circles half-blind
I had a taste for blood and a sense of pride
No one could spoil my bloody drive
I must have got bored or too sure of myself
Or maybe that drunken sheriff finally left the bottle on the shelf
But it was a royal fuck up I must say
And they kicked in my door and took my things away
Hearts, hands, head, feat, bottled on the shelf
A lifetime's work much greater than wealth
Well they locked me away for the crimes that I did
But they never did find all the bodies that I hid
They have the bottled parts, all the good stuff that matters
At least where I'm concerned
The rest of it is just food for the worms
