The origins of this song started during the Transmogrify sessions back in Edmonton. The verse chord progression was written by Kurtis Hannas and was part of a song we wrote together called "Lily Black". I wrote a new chorus and bridge and new lyrics in Toronto. We probably played the song at every gig afterwards. Chris Bell came up with the nice melodic guitar solo, but on this mix, which was done in Vancouver 1996, Kurtis wanted to re-do all his guitar parts and that's him doing Chris' solo. On this song he played the chords by slapping the strings with his hand on the verses, and tapping the notes on the strings on the chorus.
We originally recorded this one in early 1993 along with "Let's Get It All Wrong" at Joel Walsh's rehearsal space. Neither song captured a decent performance at the time. We went in with Lurch again to do 4 songs - Gargle, Wrong, Sublime, and Kahoots.
If I recall, this one was recorded with drums and bass guitar, but maybe Jenn played along with us. Chris and Kurt's guitars were over-dubbed. Then as I mentioned, Kurtis re-did his guitars years later. I had my friend Brian O'Dowd sing a background vocal on the bridge, but I re-did my vocals for this song in Vancouver, or maybe I just re-did the bridge vocals.
