This is a cover of an old Hefner song they used to do in their very first incarnation (1994) of that band (with Darren, Stuart, Graham). On the last gig I played in London, Darren, Ant and I performed this song live at the Bull+Gate. Years later, while compiling and remastering the Hefner songs for the Catfight CD, we discovered that I was the only one who had a copy of Hefner doing this song and "Affordable Friend".
When I first saw Hefner play live I loved this song. Latter I asked Darren if MELT could play it and he gladly handed it over to us since he wasn't playing songs like this anymore. We used to play the song live all the time and once, down in Portland, Darren joined us onstage to sing it with us. He later told me that for years I was singing a few of the words wrong.
We recorded this song in Vancouver in March 1997 at a small studio called UV. We went in to record about 4 songs and Kurtis insisted we hire this session drummer that neither of us had ever seen before. He was an okay player, but he played everything too perfect, so it just sounded stiff and didn't have the feel we were used to. This was the only song that turned out. Kurt, Niko, and I all played the song live together in the studio. I believe I over-dubbed the synth myself.
