This song started off with me wanting to do a cover of an old April Wine song. I put together all the drums and by the end of the night I decided this was too good to throw away on a cover song, so the next day I started writing my own song to the cool drum beat. It came together quickly and when I played those three chords E, A, B, I instantly recognized it as the chords to The Cars song "My Best Friend's Girl". I chose to keep it, but wrote a completely different vocal melody then their song, so I felt like I was being 'oh so clever'.
The "I'm All Over You" lyric was purposely written as a double entendre (to have a double meaning). It was written about a girl I dated briefly in NYC who moved back to England and it took me a long time to get over her.
This was all done in my apartment living room on Broadway & 151 street in Harlem. Kurtis added the Pixes-styled lead guitar bends and reverbed guitar parts in the 3rd verse. I asked my friends Dave Longstreth and Marcus Congleton from Ambulance Ltd to sing the background vocals.
